We have received reports of area consumers and businesses receiving fraudulent phone calls from scammers claiming to be employees of Intuit and Microsoft. Upon answering the call, the scammer informs the victim that he/she is owed a refund for discontinued services and, in order to process the refund, the scammer needs to remotely access the computer. Once connected, the scammer asks the customer for access to his/her online banking. After the online banking credentials are provided, the scammer transfers funds between the victim’s accounts. The MVSB Fund at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has awarded $113,400 to area nonprofits. The Charitable Fund contributions include 25 grants, totaling $99,400, to assist agencies with their individual needs. Laverack has assumed the position of sole President and CEO of New Hampshire Mutual Bancorp (NHMB), the holding company for MVSB, Merrimack County Savings Bank (the Merrimack) and MillRiver Wealth Management (MillRiver), effective January 1, 2016.  He previously has shared the role with Paul C. Rizzi, Jr. since 2013. The Barley House, a popular restaurant frequented by locals and tourists alike in downtown Concord, opened its second location on 43 Lafayette Road at the Lafayette Crossing Plaza in North Hampton, NH. With financing help provided by MVSB, Brian Shea, The Barley House owner, is confident the North Hampton site will be able to capitalize on the 15 years of success currently enjoyed by its flagship location.
