Local watercolor artist Dr. Marc Bard is hosting the 6th annual Paintings for a Purpose art show at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre (The Rep) in downtown Portsmouth. Community members are invited to the launch party Thursday, July 10 in lobby of The Rep. Attendees can view and purchase local New Hampshire-inspired artwork. Later that same evening, ‘Shrek the Musical’ will be performed in the theatre at 7:30 pm.
The art show will remain on display at the theater until the end of July. All are welcome to stop in during the opening reception or during business hours at The Rep to view and purchase art. All proceeds from the event will support the organization’s mission of enriching the culture of the community through the shared experience of live theatre.
“I’m thrilled to bring Paintings for a Purpose to the Portsmouth area this year,” says Dr. Marc Bard. “The Rep’s commitment to enriching the community through live theater resonates with my own mission to inspire through art. I can’t wait for everyone to see the pieces we’ve curated for this show. It’s going to be a fantastic celebration of local creativity.”
We are proud to continue our support of Paintings for a Purpose as presenting sponsor of the event.
“Portsmouth has a rich history of art and culture, and it’s a privilege for us to support organizations that continue to enhance this legacy,” said David McMahon, MVSB Branch & Business Development Manager in Portsmouth. “We’re excited for everyone to experience this blend of visual art and live theatre, and we hope you’ll stop by, catch a show and take in some beautiful art. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate and support our local arts community.”
In addition to the sale of original artwork and high-quality prints, community members can also purchase note cards, request commissioned art, and special-order prints of any original piece thanks to the support of Meredith Frame Shop. Examples of artwork can be previewed online on the organization’s website, paintingsforapurpose.org, which has been designed and maintained by Bard’s grandson, Benjy Levine.
The Art Show is open to the public during business hours at no charge, but tickets are required to attend theatre performances. Go to seacoastrep.org to learn more and purchase tickets to the upcoming shows.
