There’s a friendly face making the rounds at Inter-Lakes Elementary School and she’s earning straight A’s in comfort.
Rosie, a yellow Labrador retriever, has quickly become a beloved part of the school community, offering a calming presence for students and staff alike. Whether she’s sitting quietly beside a student, listening attentively during reading time, or simply brightening someone’s day with a wag of her tail, Rosie has a knack for knowing just when she’s needed most.
“She just seems to know,” said Robert Nedeau, School Resource Officer, Meredith Police Department. “Rosie brings a sense of calm into any room. Students connect with her right away, and that connection can make a real difference.”
Trained as a Certified Comfort Dog, Rosie supports students through moments of stress, helps build confidence, and creates opportunities for positive interaction throughout the school day. For some students, she’s a steady companion. For others, she’s a reason to smile — and maybe a little extra motivation to get through a tough moment.
Behind the scenes, Rosie’s journey has been fueled by plenty of hard work, consistency, and yes, more than a few treats. From early training sessions to certification, every step has helped shape Rosie into the calm, caring presence students now rely on, proving that a little positive reinforcement can go a long way.
Rosie’s journey to the classroom was powered by strong community support. Fundraising efforts across the Lakes Region, along with donations from local businesses and individuals, helped cover the cost of her training, certification, and care. Community members were invited to donate, round up purchases, or simply spread the word to help bring Rosie’s calming presence to local students.
To support those ongoing efforts, MVSB recently donated $500 to support Rosie.
“Rosie is doing such important work, even with the smallest moments,” said Susannah Perron, MVSB Branch & Business Development Manager. “It’s been really special to see the community rally around her, and we’re proud to support something that’s making a difference for local students.”
From hallway visits to quiet moments in the classroom, Rosie continues to lend a paw wherever it’s needed, proving that sometimes the best kind of support comes with four legs and a wagging tail — and a community behind her cheering her on.
